Where is Puerto Plata located?
Puerto Plata is located on the North Coast of the island of the Dominican Republic, just west of Puerto Rico. The North Coast is a beautiful scenic area with picturesque beaches with a breathtaking mountain backdrop. This tropical paradise and its atmosphere make it an ideal candidate for your next all inclusive holidays. If you leave the golden sand beaches there are a plethora of delicious restaurants including traditional dishes to sample. Stay out late and experience the nightlife and local music scene. You'll be swept into this colorful, passionate culture by the view, tastes, and music so prevalent in the area. For those who are interested in venturing off the beaten path, fluency in Spanish isn't necessary, a kind gesture or smile will take you far.

Getting There
You can get to the Dominican Republic by air from anywhere in the world, usually cheaply and easily. The two major international airports are Santo Domingo's Las Americas International Airport (SDQ), Puerto Plata's Gregorio Luperon International Airport (POP) - located between Puerto Plata and Sosua, about a 15-minute taxi ride either way - and Santiago's International Airport (STI) - about 50-minute taxi drive from Puerto Plata. There are six other airports in the island, though most are used for domestic and commercial traffic. However, some airlines provide service to Punta Cana and La Romana.

Weather
Unlike most of the world, the Dominican Republic really only has two main seasons - tropical and tropical-cool. Temperatures in the Caribbean are fairly constant year round with average daytime temperatures reaching 29°C (84°F) before falling to a comfortable 21°C (70°F) in the evening. The primary difference between the seasons is precipitation and humidity. The "tropical season" runs roughly from May through October and is characterized by high humidity and precipitation, which make it feel much hotter than what is shown on the thermometer. Both humidity and precipitation fall off in November and remain low through April, this "tropical-cool season" is characterized by pleasantly warm days and beautifully mild evenings.
